Grease Costume

You’re the one that I want when it comes to the amazing Grease costumes that we have available. Go back in time to Rydell High School and dress up as Danny, Sandy or any of your favourite characters from this classic and much loved movie.

Grease, the 1978 movie, was based on Jim Jacobs’ and Warren Casey’s musical. It launched the careers of its two main leads, John Travolta as cool dude Danny, and Olivia Newton-John as the sweet and shy Sandy.

Let’s go back to 1958 and the new term starts at Rydell High School. Venice High School was the real-life location for Rydell High School although the interior scenes were at Huntington Park High School. We’ve been introduced to Danny Zuko and Sandy Olsson who met during the summer vacation and fell in love but had to part because Sandy was going back to Australia. She doesn’t go, but instead enrols at Rydell as a foreign-exchange student where Danny is also a student.  She becomes friendly with Frenchy and meets the other members of “The Pink Ladies”: Rizzo, Marty and Jan. Danny is the leader of the T-birds, which also includes Kenickie, Doody and Sonny.

The Pink Ladies find out that she had met Danny on vacation and decide to get them together and when they see each other Danny tries to protect his cool dude image and acts like seeing her again is no big deal.

During the movie we see Sandy invited to a sleepover with the Pink Ladies, Frenchy dropping out of school and going to Beauty School, the T-Birds doing up on old car and fantasizing about what it would look like and Danny taking Sandy to the televised school dance with him ending up dancing with a past girlfriend. They soon make up and Danny takes Sandy to a drive in where he gives her his class ring and then tries to make out with her.  Sandy gets angry with him and throws back the ring and leaves. We then see Sandy watching Danny race against the leader of the Scorpions. She then asks Frenchy to help her change her image and win Danny’s heart.  The movie ends at the end of school carnival where Danny falls at the feet of Sandy who is clad in the tightest pair of pants you’ve ever seen.  Everyone gets together and it all ends happily.

There are certainly some memorable songs from Grease and I should think that everyone can remember one, two or more of them.

What about Summer Nights which is sung when both Danny and Sandy are recounting to their friends about their vacation. Danny, of course, is bragging about the physical side of the relationship whilst Sandy recounts a different story about meeting a boy “as sweet as can be”.

Then there’s Hopelessly Devoted to You that Sandy sings after a sleepover at Frenchy’s house.  It seems that, in spite of everything, she is still in love with Danny.

Finally, there’s the unforgettable You’re the One that I want sung at the School Carnival at the end of term. We hear Danny singing that he has “got chills, they’re multiplying, and I’m losing control, ‘cause the power you’re supplying, it’s electrifying”, when he sees the new and sexy Sandy.
